Can you name the top ten best Auld Lang Syne downloads & download recordings?
Thousands of artists have performed or released renditions of the New Year’s Eve staple Auld Lang Syne. Here are the Top 10 Best Auld Lang Syne recordings & downloads of all time. Most downloads pale in comparison to these gems: 1. Auld Lang Syne: Scott West & Sex On Sunday (November 2006) Featuring Tesla guitarist Frank Hannon and Sex On Sunday’s Scott West, this version of Auld Lang Syne begins with West’s dynamic piano and strings swelling into Hannon’s searing guitar work. West’s arrangement deserves top honors for its beautiful textures, riveting crescendos, fueled by the magnificently fresh power and tone of Hannon’s burning fret work. This warm arrangement brings an edgy, contemporary vibe to the song, making it the best recording of this holiday classic and most popular Myspace Auld Lang Syne download. Myspace.com/47734340 More from Scott West at Myxer Number 1 Most Downloaded New Year's Ringtone (Scott West's Auld Lang Syne)#1 New Years Eve Song Ringtone On The Web! 2. Auld Lang Syne: Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians (Dec. 1947) Decades of New Year’s radio and television broadcasts popularized Guy Lombardo’s big band arrangement of Auld Lang Syne. Lombardo has two well-known renditions of the song. The most recent was released in 1947 by Decca Records and is the best big band recording. Lombardo's name is synonymous with New Year's Eve and he is often billed as "the only Canadian to have popularized an American tradition" and as "the sweetest sound this side of heaven." ITunes.com 3. Auld Lang Syne: Kenneth McKellar (1995) McKellar’s smooth glistening voice and the orchestral arrangement make this the standout operatic version of Auld Lang Syne. It features excellent recording quality with stunning vocals and arrangement. This is my favorite Auld Lang syne download with vocals.http://www.maybole.org/community/celebrations/christmas/greetings/AuldLangSyne2.mp3 4. Same Old Lang Syne: Dan Fogelberg (1981) Fogelberg’s Same Old Lang Syne is not the traditional version, but it ends with a beautiful saxophone solo of the traditional melody. This song features a compelling modern day story about meeting one’s old lover in a grocery store. Over the years, it has become a holiday radio and download favorite. ITunes.com 5. Auld Lang Syne: Bing Crosby (1949) How can you not love the smooth, melodic voice of one of the all-time greatest crooners singing one of the world’s most famous songs? There’s a reason Crosby got a Grammy award for singing holiday music in 1947. His buttery voice melts through every word and note. ITunes.com 6. Auld Lang Syne: Ronnie Browne (1999) Linn Records recording of Auld Lang Syne by Ronnie Brown is the best Scot-influenced interpretation. This recording is part of a collection of songs written by Scottish poet Robert Burns that was produced by Dr. Fred Freeman. This simple arrangement showcases The Corries famous lead singer and the traditional Scottish arrangement of the holiday classic. 7. Auld Lang Syne: The Beach Boys (1965) The Beach Boys included a harmonized a-capella version of Auld Lang Syne on their 1965 Christmas album. This version has more appeal than the band’s other version with the voice over that buries those amazing Beach Boy harmonies. This is a great a-capella recording. ITunes.com 8. Auld Lang Syne: Kenny G (2002) Kenny G’s millennium mix includes an audio collage of historic political and entertainment tidbits from the 20th Century. Walter Afanasieff co-produced this recording and Dave Foxx & Lou Simon produced and arranged the audio collage portion, which is historic and remarkable. Kenny G's Auld Lang Syne download should be part of your holiday music collection. 9. Auld Lang Syne: Jimi Hendrix (Recorded LIVE December 31, 1969) The recording quality of this version does not measured up to Hendrix’ legendary oeuvre or his other famous performances. Recorded at the opening of Hendrix’ second set at the Fillmore East on December 31, 1969 to January 1, 1970, this version does not reach Hendrix’ dynamic “Star Spangled Banner” in intensity, dynamics or recording quality, but is still a noteworthy rendition. 10. Auld Lang Syne: The Highland Pipers (1998) This sweet, instrumental recording features a soft Scottish flute playing the melody line, not bagpipes. This is the most laid back of the top ten and is well suited for a romantic-candle-lit New Years evening for two. It is the last track on the Highland Pipers “Highland Christmas: Carols For Scottish Bagpipes.” TOP 10 BEST AULD LANG SYNE RECORDINGS: 1.Scott West(2006) 2.Guy Lombardo(1947) 3.Ken McKellar(1995) 4.Dan Fogelberg(1981) 5.Bing Crosby(1949) 6.Ronnie Brown(1999) 7.Beach Boys(1965) 8.Kenny G(2002) 9.JimiHendrix(1969) 10.Highland Pipers(1998) Originally published in The Village Voice (New York City) By Marie Lila. Six String Jazz & Friends have been invited back to Green Hills
Piano. Appearing Friday evening, November 27th, a band of rowdy jazz
musicians will play tunes from such composers as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Monk, Coltrane, and others from a bygone era.
Surrounded by more than a dozen fine pianos, beautifully restored to their former grandeur by Grant Houston, the band will bring life to such composers as Cole Porter, Count Basie, and Rogers and Hart that, like the pianos, were at the heart of accessible American music from the 1930s to the '50s. We play this music because it has proven its worth by surviving for many years, bringing joy and beauty to thousands of people.

I have a Vintage 1970's Fender Rhodes Mark I Stage Piano for sale in good condition. It has that warm rhodes sound that many keyboards attempt to replicate, but there is nothing like the real thing! I want $900.00 O.B.O NO TRADES! Call 615 719 5301 if interested!
It comes with an after market sustain pedal, original legs, and original suitcase style top. Electronics and tines are very clean. There are a few rubber stoppers missing from pedal and legs, a little sticking on a few keys, and some scratches on the outside of the tolex from touring, but overall it's fully functional and studio or road worthy. • Location: 12th South

Professional Bassist Availableposted: November 5, 2009, 09:00 PM

I am currently available for gigs, tours, and any session work. I am based out of Nashville - and I'm looking to get involved with some new established projects. I have over a decade of experience playing the electric bass. I have also studied and performed with world-renowned artists/musicians.
Other than playing bass (which is my first instrument of choice) - I also play electric/acoustic guitar, piano, percussion, and harmonica. I would like to get with artists/musicians that have some original music ready to play - and that have some gigs, tours, and sessions in their future. I am also a singer/songwriter - so, I can sing lead/harmonies if needed. I can play any genre. Anything goes! Rock, Funk, R&B, Country, Blues, Alternative...etc. I am a solid bassist with a lot of performance experience. I also have my BA in Music/Bass Performance. AND - I have great touring equipment and basses. Please check out my website to listen to my original music (which I am playing bass on) - to get an idea of my vocal/bass performance. www.amandamccoy.com I will post my bio below to give you an idea of who I've worked with and what I've done. Thanks! BIO: Amanda performed at the Heritage Music BluesFest (Wheeling, WV) 2008 – as both a solo acoustic artist and bassist for The Catch Blues Band. Amanda and The Catch Blues Band combined forces to perform a smokin’ hot set as the opening act for blues legend Johnny Winter. As a bassist, Amanda has performed and studied with many world-renowned musicians – the list reads like a who’s who of the music industry, and includes Kenny Aronoff, Victor Wooten, Pandel Collaros, Steve Bailey, Mike Pope, Roger Hoard, Howard Levy, Frank Gambale, Tristen Smith, Brandon Barnes, Chad Smith, Mike Roeder, Zack Wiesinger and Molly Pauken. Amanda has developed a solid, funky, and soulful style that keeps her audience at the edge of their seat – anxiously awaiting her next “soul-shaking” bassline. After auditioning in 2007, Amanda was among 60 bassists internationally selected to attend Bass At The Beach, a five-day conference for serious bass guitarists. Here she met world-renowned drummer Kenny Aronoff – who became a major influence and dear friend. “When I met Amanda at Bass At The Beach – I was impressed with her upbeat, and vivacious personality combined with a down to earth sensibility. When I played with her, I told her that I loved her feel, enthusiasm and exciting vibe when she played the bass. She rocks with an R&B feel.” –Kenny Aronoff Amanda started playing the guitar at age three – and started playing bass shortly thereafter. Coming from a very musical family, Amanda’s parents played a major role in shaping her style and love of music. At the age of nine her Father taught her a simple blues progression. From that moment forward – Amanda has never looked back. Amanda’s experience and training at the hands of skilled performer/pedagogues such as Victor Wooten and Kenny Aronoff have imbued her with a sense of professionalism that is lacking in most folks her age. Her interest in the music of the African-American blues masters has made her expert in the performance of blues, R&B, and rock musics. Her formal training and experience has provided her with reading skills that allow her to cover the gamut from jazz to musical theater. Amanda has mastered a variety of musical genres and equipped herself with the tools appropriate to tackle any musical style. Her solid, funky, and soulful bass playing just adds another dimension to her prodigious guitar, piano, and singing abilities. When Amanda McCoy takes the stage, her musicianship and presence are both guaranteed to knock you off your feet. Amanda graduated in 2009 from Bethany College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music – primarily focusing on bass guitar performance. “In spite of her youth, she proved to be a talented and strong individual whose soul runs deep blue.” – BJFM / Blues Triangle Update • Location: Nashville

A group of local jazz musicians will be playing standards/Real Book
tunes during the opening week of Green Hills Piano, a new place in Green Hills. Located at 4117 Hillsboro Rd, Grant Houston plans to provide the community with fine older pianos from the early twentieth century. As Grant put it, "It is the recycling of true American craftsmanship. These pianos are built and rebuilt in America by Americans, predominantly from the production era from the end of WWI to the start of WWII, a time regarded as 'the 'golden age' of the American piano. These pianos are not 'used' but have been made new again---new throughout." www.greenhillspianos.com We will be playing Friday night November 6th from six until ten PM,and Saturday night same time. We currently have a half-dozen players(bass, drums, guitar, trumpet, sax)for Friday and we would like a few more piano players who might be interested in playing jazz on a grand old piano from more than a century ago.
